Other equipment

X-ray

Our x-ray suite comprises of a fully adjustable floating xray table, this allows us to move the table in any horizontal position,

around the beam of the x-ray tube head which is positioned above the table.

ECG

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a simple, safe, pain free, non-invasive test that is used to check the heart’s rhythm and electrical activity. Clips/sensors are attached to the patient’s skin, usually on the limbs, this then allows a recording of the heart’s electrical activity to be printed onto paper for interpretation by the veterinary surgeon.

Endoscopy

An endoscope is a long, flexible tube with a camera and light source at the tip. At Lawrence Veterinary Centre we have two endoscopes – a longer apparatus which can be inserted into the mouth and oesophagus so that the stomach can be examined and a smaller rigid endoscope which allows us to visualise smaller areas such as the nasal cavity.

Dental area

Dentals are performed daily under general anaesthetic and we have a specific dental area set up for this procedure. We use a piezoelectrical scaler which safely and quickly removes tartar from the patient’s teeth, a high speed drill which allows teeth to be split prior to extraction and a slow speed polisher to make the teeth shine. We also have specific equipment available for treating the teeth of animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs.

Intensive Care Incubators

At Lawrence Veterinary Centre we have two incubators. The larger, neonatal incubator allows us to supply oxygen and heat in a controlled environment. It is frequently used for small dogs, cats and other small animals that require intensive/critical care and those needing extra heat and/or oxygen following anaesthetics. We also have a smaller incubator ideal for smaller pets.
